The changed regulations for safely managing hazardous substances at work are out now. Come to our workshop and find out what the difference is, in these new regulations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.

When the Act came into force last year, the health and safety regulator WorkSafe NZ began releasing supporting regulations, so far for General Risk and Workplace, Asbestos, Worker Engagement and Participation, and Major Hazard Facilities Regulations.

Now Worksafe NZ has released the Hazardous Substances Regulation, which is 580 pages long.

This Regulation continues the realignment between Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act, and Worksafe NZ. The regulation is about the management of hazardous substances at work or in the work environment.

This EMA workshop will cover the general duties for all workplaces that use, store, handle or produce hazardous substances. The workshop cannot cover in-depth controls for specific classes of hazardous substances. This workshop will cover:

  • labelling,
  • signage,
  • SDS sheets,
  • packaging,
  • emergency management,
  • Certified Handlers,
  • Compliance Certificates, and
  • Compliance Certifier.

The workshop will also reference the new tools Worksafe NZ has developed to ensure compliance. Participants will also receive an audit tool to use within their workplaces as well as other relevant documentation.

Attendance is recommended as it will give you the knowledge and ability to assess your current level of risk mitigation in relation to hazardous substances at your workplace.
