Facilities management and commercial cleaning company, OCS will convert 30% of its fleet to electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles over the next three years as part of a landmark joint private sector commitment to the future of EVs in New Zealand.

Under the initiative, led by Air New Zealand and Mercury, more than 30 leading Kiwi organisations have collectively committed to convert at least 1450 vehicles on the nation’s roads to electric by 2019. This commitment will boost New Zealand’s current EV fleet by more than 75 percent which could remove almost three million kg of carbon emissions annually.

Managing Director Gareth Marriott says the initiative fits with OCS’ own commitment to sustainability. “OCS is extremely focused not only on addressing the environmental impacts of our own products and services, but also on supporting our clients and suppliers to meet their own environmental, social and economic sustainability goals.

“This initiative will see a huge reduction in fuel consumption, and we’re proud to play a part in New Zealand’s largest ever commitment to electric vehicles,” Marriott says.

Air New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Christopher Luxon says Air New Zealand and OCS already work together on a cabin waste recycling initiative at Auckland Airport and it’s great to join forces on this most recent green initiative.

“As a partner to Air New Zealand, it’s great to see OCS has a sustainable vision for the future, as our business does,” Luxon says.

OCS currently has over 300 diesel and petrol fleet vehicles on the road.
