More than 200 ‘thinking’ New Zealand aspirational women are set to attend a groundbreaking symposium designed to inspire real change in their lives – both personal and professional.
The Fantail Network’s Wisdom Symposium on 22 August, supported by ASB, has a strong programme focused on the network’s key themes of WISDOM, NOURISHMENT and KNOWLEDGE.
The unique full-day event includes two key note speakers, wisdom ‘storytellers’, nourishment sessions focusing on the body and mind led by Shirley Mcleod from Yoga With Me, a NZTE Better By Design workshop with tools to apply to everyday work and play, and a panel focusing on ‘Life Lessons & The Future’.
Jane Kennelly is the co-founder of The Fantail Network Trust formed in 2014 to support, connect and enable women in business with a particular focus on technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. She says: “Wisdom Symposium is just one of a series of Fantail Network’s events that bring together diverse and innovative people who share a passion for business, want to stretch their thinking and be equipped for change.
“Our objective is to provide resources and opportunities for more women to participate and succeed in business, We are excited about the strength of the inaugural symposium programme.”
The symposium’s first keynote speaker Alex Mercer of MercerPalmer Communications will share her experience of working internationally and her transition back to New Zealand to ‘find her place’. The Founder and Executive Director of member-based angel investment organisation Arc Angels, Mercer is dedicated to building investor knowledge and encouraging investment in early stage businesses that are led or managed by women across New Zealand.
Terrance Wallace is the other keynote speaker. The legal guardian of 52 boys, Wallace works with the Inzone Education Foundation – a not-for-profit organisation for under-privileged Maori and Pacific Island youth.  Wallace will share his own compelling story and how it led him into a line of work that provides disadvantaged youth with an education at some of New Zealand’s top secondary schools.
Wisdom Symposium ‘storyteller’ Makaia Carr is a typically busy mum of two, and has more than 80,000 social media followers. Through her Motivate Me business, Carr enables others to achieve the motivation that resulted in her dramatic 10kg weight loss in 3 months via healthy eating and exercise. She will share her secrets and explain why helping others to achieve the same is so important to her.
Wellington-based fashion entrepreneur and designer Annabelle Wilson of Wilson Trollope will showcase her summer 2015/2016 collection. With all garments made in New Zealand, Wilson will also share her passion for home grown design and inspiration at Wisdom Symposium.
Fantail Network co-founder Kathy McCombe says: “The aim of Wisdom Symposium is to ensure all who attend have been engaged in expansive thinking, and are inspired to transform their dreams into reality. It’s about enabling women to grow ideas, build confidence and networks, and be equipped to embrace change.”
