This security camera is designed for indoor use which allows simple setup. We tested it looking out a window towards our front door.

Set up is simple, insert a micro SD card to record video (Or subscribe to the My-Dlink cloud service), connect power supply and plug in. Next download the Mydlink app for your phone and follow the instructions to add a device. This is simplicity itself as it uses a QR code on the camera to connect to Wifi and set up in the app. The camera can sit on something or comes with a handy ceiling mount.

Once positioned and set up you can adjust various parameters such as sensitivity of person or motion sensing, area of view for person sensing, when to record and notify about events (including having a schedule) and more. From the app you can pan and tilt the camera, view video of recorded events and see a live view. The camera has a microphone and speaker for audio as well.

I did need to wind the sensitivity back a bit to avoid false detections but otherwise the camera performed well.

The camera also integrates via Google assistant and Amazon Alexa but as we don’t have these, we were not able to try that functionality.

Specifications are noted as: The DCS-8526LH Full HD Pan/Tilt Pro Wi-Fi Camera gives you a 360° view of any room. As well as powerful auto-motion tracking, edge-based person detection and five metre night-vision, the camera uses Tap Location on Panorama View Angle Selection, so you can point it at any target in the field of view with just a single touch. This means you can jump to specific areas of a room with pinpoint accuracy always keeping any and all moving targets in sight.

There’s also a Privacy Mode on the DCS-8526LH that can be turned on with the mydlink app, and when it is the camera’s lens is covered completely giving you maximum control over your privacy whenever you need it.

To ensure you see what you want and don’t miss any crucial movement, the DCS-8526LH employs built-in infrared LEDs and auto motion tracking turning the camera into an all-seeing, highly-responsive, roving eye that pans and tilts to automatically track targets no matter where they move, day or night.

RRP: $229.99
