New Zealand company SRW Laboratories is launching a world-first cellular health business targeting ‘The Nine Hallmarks of Ageing’.

Auckland-based biotechnology start-up SRW Laboratories is aiming for a slice of the global anti-ageing supplements market, a rapidly growing sector of the health and wellness industry valued at hundreds of billions.

SRW (Science Research Wellness) Laboratories claims to be the first in the world to offer a range of cutting-edge supplement formulations that specifically target cellular ageing factors known as ‘The Hallmarks of Ageing’.

The SRW product range includes three supplements Cel Stability, Cel Nourishment and Cel Renewal formulated to rejuvenate the human cellular system and support cellular health. SRW is also the first New Zealand company to offer biological age testing using DNA methylation in their soon to be launched test-kit named DNAage.

The hallmarks of ageing characterise nine changes that occur in cells as we age. Some factors commonly receive individual attention but are interrelated. Three hallmarks that are widely recognised by consumers include telomere attrition, mitochondrial dysfunction, and cellular senescence. The nine hallmarks were first categorised in a seminal 2013 research paper published in leading scientific journal ‘Cell’ and are now widely accepted by scientists globally, with over 3200 citations since the original paper was published.

Ingredients in SRW’s range include rising stars of a new generation of molecules and co-enzymes: 2-HOBA (Hobamine™), Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) and Fisetin. SRW Laboratories is only the second company in the world to have access to breakthrough molecule 2-HOBA, while NMN, on the market for only five years, is now seeing a surge in growth in the global market, worth over NZD $360 million+ in 2021.

The SRW range is manufactured in New Zealand at GMP certified facilities. Ingredients are selected based on evidence of effect and their ability to work synergistically with other ingredients in each formulation. The potent proprietary formulations are created by founder and cellular health expert, Greg Macpherson (pictured below), with input from SRW’s global science advisory board.

Greg Macpherson started his career as the founder and director of Pharmacy Direct, the leading online pharmacy in NZ for nearly 25 years. He is also the former CEO of biotech success story MitoQ Ltd. A health and technology futurist, he advocates that “with today’s scientific knowledge, living healthy and active beyond 100 is entirely achievable for most people”.

Macpherson has ambitious plans for SRW to be part of the solution, changing the way we approach ageing and how we invest in our health as we age, as is happening in the US and Asia.

“Ageing is the biggest risk factor for poor health,” he says. “While billions are currently being spent on treating diseases like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and cardiovascular diseases, we could instead be spending that on supporting longevity and healthspan, not only reducing the burden on society but also increasing quality of life. This makes perfect sense when we bear in mind that the population of New Zealanders aged over 65 is predicted to more than double to reach around 1.5 million by 2046.”

Globally the anti-ageing products market is projected to exceed $260 Billion by 2022 and while creams and lotions are the biggest segments, popularity of supplements that address ageing “from within” is increasing. Macpherson anticipates that global demand for cellular health products will continue its rapid trajectory, with new research and ingredients acting as a driving force.

To complement its optimum regimen of nutraceuticals, SRW supports customers with a holistic approach to ageing, providing evidence-based lifestyle information around such areas as the anti-ageing benefits of exercise, sleep, stress mitigation fasting.
