Are you a business ‘David’? Do you own a small business that punches way above its weight? The David Awards have returned in 2021 to give small, hard-working businesses like yours the recognition they deserve.

After a hiatus caused by the 2020 Covid-19 lockdowns, The David Awards are roaring back to life in 2021, with entries now open.

The David Awards were first launched in 2008 to recognise the unsung heroes in home and small businesses in New Zealand. They are specially targeted to acknowledge the small business ‘hero’ owners who contribute so much to the wellbeing of the economy, our communities, their families, and the overall business landscape.

With Covid-19 generating so much disruption and uncertainty over the past 14 months, it’s timely that the Awards are making a return this year.

With a central theme of overcoming adversity (just as David conquered Goliath in biblical times with his slingshot and carefully-chosen river stones), the Awards will especially appeal to those business owners who were forced to make business- and life-changing decisions during the pandemic.

It’s well-known that New Zealand’s small businesses more than hold their own against the country’s business ‘Goliaths’. They are by nature both nimble and resilient – able to create smart solutions when faced with new challenges and barriers.

Remember, David’s five river stones represent Courage, Tenacity, Ingenuity, Excellence and Authenticity – these are the very same qualities that sum up The David Awards.

“The David Awards are a great opportunity for small business owners to tell their story. Some of the stories are inspirational, some are harrowing. But everybody has a story and it’s therapeutic and rewarding to tell them, and to read them.” – Glenn Smith, long-time David Awards judge.

There are eight categories in this year’s Awards: Most Outstanding Fledgling Business, Most Outstanding Established Business, Most Outstanding Triumph Over Adversity, Most Innovative Business, Most Inspired Use of Marketing, Most Outstanding Social Impact, the Solo Meo Award and People’s Choice Award, WHICH IS NOW OPEN FOR VOTING!

Generous prize packages are awarded to all finalists, category winners and the overall supreme winner.

Entry is remarkably easy, with entries completed and submitted entirely online, as is all feedback supplied by the judges. Please note that entries close on August 17th at 5pm.
