The West Coast Pie Company is going national with an exciting new campaign in partnership with Development West Coast and Monteith’s.

The campaign will see West Coast made pies available in 40 bars and restaurants around the country from Alexandra to Auckland, along with point of sale advertising that invites Kiwis to ‘savour a taste of the West Coast’.

The campaign is underway and will run into 2024 and will see various delicious pie flavours suggested as matches for Monteith’s brews, with every purchase going into the draw to win a West Coast Experience holiday.

The first pie match is a venison pie made with (and matched with) Monteith’s West Coastin Hazy, and there is a seafood and a tahr goat pie in the works for later in the campaign.

The boutique Westport based pie company specialises in producing premium wild game pies and champions the benefits of eating wild meat in an effort to see wild meat become a more widely available source of protein in our diets.

Produced from hand-harvested wild hunted meat, West Coast Pie Company pies utilise a natural resource that is sustainable, environmentally friendly and superior in flavour and nutritional value.

Emily Lucas from the West Coast Pie Company believes that by eating wild meat Kiwis can make a direct contribution to protecting the biodiversity of New Zealand’s native habitats, and is thrilled to be able to offer people all over the country the opportunity to try their delicious pies through this new campaign.

The ‘Savour a taste of the West Coast’ campaign has been a catalyst for significant expansion by the West Coast Pie Company, resulting in the establishment of a new commercial production facility in Westport and doubling of staff.

Emily Lucas cited the wonderful support of the community, and in particular, the Buller Resilience Trust, who provided financial support necessary to enable the expansion.

“The support of the Buller Resilience Trust was a key factor in us being able to take this exciting step in our business journey and we are proud to be providing new employment and career pathways for locals as a result of this support as well as shining a light on Westport as a visitor destination,” said Lucas.

DWC Destination and Tourism Manager Patrick Dault said the campaign was all about working with Monteith’s and the West Coast Pie Company to share some of the personality of the Coast.

“Our research shows that Kiwis are keen to engage with Coasters. After rugged coastlines, lush, deep greens and snowcapped mountains, the number one reason or motivation to visit the West Coast is to engage with friendly coasters, and find out more about the history, legacy and the culture of our region,” Dault said.
