Invercargill lawyer Emma Stanley is launching an innovative app to untangle the legal twists and turns involved in buying a home.

Stanley, who started her own law firm Emma Stanley Law in Invercargill in 2014, came up with the idea for EasyLaw about three months ago.

There did not appear to be an app in New Zealand designed to bring together all the legal infor-mation potential homeowners needed, Stanley said.

“I wanted to get it up and running as fast as possible because like all good ideas, you never know when someone else might pop up with something similar.”

Stanley brought fellow Invercargill companies Back 9 Creative Studio and Digital Stock on board to take care of the look, feel and technical stuff that has resulted in the sleek-looking and easy to nav-igate home-buying aid.

She wanted to use Southland-based designers and software developers and being able to discuss the project face-to-face had been invaluable, she said.

“It’s incredible when you think about all the great work businesses in Southland are doing. There’s a lot of innovation within the city.”

She decided on the EasyLaw name as it gave her the ability to market it to other law firms and or-ganisations. The app has been launched as a house-buying aid, but it could potentially be expanded to cover other legal areas, Stanley said.

“It’s really exciting to see what direction it goes in from here.”

The app channels Stanley’s years of property law experience, bringing together the many different strands of information home-buyers need.

EasyLaw is broken up into three sections covering people who don’t know where to start, people who have found a home but don’t know where to go from there, and people who have made an of-fer on a home and need information on completing the process or what to do next.

It also has helpful definitions and checklists. One of the checklists is linked to a dashboard so Em-ma Stanley Law can see exactly where you are at in the process and whether you need help.

“It will save people a lot of time, stress and worry by having all the relevant information in one place in a simple format which demystifies the home-buying process,” Stanley said.

The app complements the exceptional and innovative personal service Stanley offers her clients, who come from all around Southland, New Zealand and the world.

“They can take their time to browse through the app and have questions relevant to them an-swered.”

The app is available from the App Store on both Android and iPhone.
