In a significant move for New Zealand’s artisan food and beverage sector, Hawke’s Bay-based St Andrews Limes has acquired iconic Wellington craft soda company, Six Barrel Soda.

The acquisition, set to take effect on March 31, 2025, will enhance production capabilities while ensuring Six Barrel Soda remains an independent and sustainable brand.

Six Barrel Soda, renowned for its syrups, small-batch sodas, and sugar-free Seltz Drops, has cultivated a strong local and international following over the past 12 years. St Andrews Limes, known for its citrus juices, no/low sugar sodas, dressings, and condiments, sees the acquisition as a natural fit. The two companies have collaborated for years, with St Andrews Limes supplying lime and lemon juice for many of Six Barrel Soda’s syrups.

“Six Barrel Soda’s founders have built an outstanding syrup company with craftsmanship and creativity,” says Matthew Day, co-owner of St Andrews Limes alongside his wife, Tracy.

“We are thrilled to continue their legacy and strengthen the brand, while staying true to our shared values of excellence, integrity, and sustainability.”

The couple is also excited to open a new shared facility that will serve as both a production site and a public-facing specialty soda factory and cellar door – Hawke’s Bay’s first of its kind.

For Six Barrel Soda fans, the transition promises continuity, with all current products remaining available through existing stockists and online. The acquisition will also introduce new locally inspired flavours in the near future.

“We’re excited about this next chapter,” says Joseph Slater, Six Barrel Soda’s co-founder.

“After an amazing 12 years, we are hugely grateful to our loyal customers and confident that Matt and Tracy will take the business to new heights.”
