There are few growth strategies that can match international e-commerce’s potential for doubling or tripling the size of your business.

There are currently more than 1.8 billion digital shoppers worldwide – with 2.2 billion predicted by 2021. By opening up to the international market with a well thought-out strategy, you present your products to, literally, hundreds of millions of new potential buyers.

Successful international trade is about overcoming barriers for the buyer so purchasing becomes a straightforward process. The right e-commerce solution can help minimize shipping costs and maximize international sales potential. It takes just a few clicks to localise your store.

In 2012, when online shopping was in its infancy, young entrepreneur Jimmy Wu founded Parcelport – an online cloud-based freight management service.

Parcelport provides online courier solutions to SMEs challenged by high freight costs and easily manages the shipment of products to valued customers.

“Parcelport is a ‘one-stop shop’ for managing freight and shipping goods,” explains Parcelport’s CEO Jeff Vollebregt (pictured). “Using multiple couriers and only one bill.

“Our team has extensive logistics and technology experience, and can therefore stay agile to the needs of the market and adapt our customer offer accordingly.

“Like most entrepreneurial companies, we made it through by sticking to our principles – be persistent, be true to our customer promise, be true to our people, and work real hard to meet the business needs of our customers.”

Parcelport was initially a market underdog, but with the Internet allowing online businesses to take on traditional business models, an increasing number of shippers and courier companies began to approach them.

Parcelport was ranked 170th in the Deloitte Fast 500 for Asia Pacific tech companies and has now partnered with New Zealand Post, Freightways, TiL, TNT/FedEx and SF Express to offer both domestic and international courier options to customers New Zealand-wide.

“We are also able to offer international 3PL solutions out of Auckland, Sydney, Shanghai and Shenzhen,” says Vollebregt.

“Particularly exciting is our newly signed agreement with SF Express, China’s foremost international express and domestic freight provider. If SMEs are shipping to the Greater China and North Asia region, Parcelport have some ground-breaking rates and service options available.

“While our business has grown exponentially, at our core we’re still a hungry Kiwi SME working hard for the approval and success of our customers,” explains Vollebregt.

“A key priority is always to ensure our system and service benefits all customers by saving them time and money. We only consider a process successful if the customer is satisfied and we’ve exceeded their expectations.”

Looking to the future, Vollebregt says Parcelport will continue to improve simplicity, cost efficiency and relevance to its customer’s needs.

“Our customers need us to stay relevant to technological advances in e-commerce and logistics,” he says. “Proactively managing customer pain points before they even arise, is where true added value lies.”
