Global online trading platform, CMC Markets is celebrating ten years of operation in New Zealand this year, marking a significant milestone for the company.

Chris Smith, GM of CMC Markets NZ, who helped establish the New Zealand business in 2006 after returning home from the Australian office in Sydney, is excited about this important occasion.

“When we first opened our doors the financial markets were still strong pre GFC, the NZDUSD had briefly dipped below 60c and the NZX50 was below 4000. Ten years on we have the NZX50 index near its all-time highs at 7000, and the US sharemarkets nearing an eight year bull market, post the GFC declines of 2007 to 2009.

“Because nearly half of all of our trading is now done on mobile devices, we’ve invested heavily in a state-of-the art trading platform to keep up with continuously evolving technological changes,” adds Smith.

“I am extremely proud of what we have achieved so far and our amazing team continue to be the driving force of the business. I’m also thankful to our clients who have made the last ten years possible.”

English entrepreneur Peter Cruddas formed CMC Markets in 1989. The company listed on the London Stock Exchange in February 2016 and trades on the FTSE250. Peter was in New Zealand to commemorate this and the 10th birthday of the New Zealand operation. “Since founding the business over 27 years ago as a foreign exchange broker, it’s amazing to see how CMC Markets has evolved into a successful global operation with offices in 14 countries including a presence in Asia, continental Europe, North America and Australasia,” he says.

“Chris and the rest of the team have done an incredible job in New Zealand to help achieve our goal of providing the most superior and unrivalled trading experience for our clients. It’s been a great decade and we’re very excited about what’s to come.”

This 10-year milestone also marks CMC Market’s long-standing partnership with the iconic New Zealand children’s charity, Variety. Over the past decade, CMC Markets has been a principal partner of the Variety Gold Heart Scholarship programme, donating over $300,000 to provide a bridge for deserving, underprivileged and talented kids to turn their dreams into reality.

“It has been a pleasure to support Variety over the last decade. They perform incredible work for New Zealand children and it’s humbling to know that our contribution is making a real difference in the community, helping these gifted candidates achieve their goals,” says Chris.
