School project morphs into business

A team of young Christchurch entrepreneurs is morphing a school project into a successful business venture.

pochepocket, established in 2013, is a menswear label that values and celebrates individuality. The brand is driven by five final year high school students at St Andrew’s College in Christchurch; and “aims to connect with creative minds and inspire independent individuals to celebrate and express their own unique individuality”.

The brand’s goal is to produce individually personalized, one-off custom garments and develop a series of innovatively designed, collaborated collections.

“pochepocket believes in innovative people who defy the norm and challenge the status quo,” says Henry Pearson, pochepocket’s leading director, “We believe individuality should be celebrated and that the opportunity to express who you are should be limitless.”

pochepocket began as a school project last year; the team has gained valuable industry experience and has been experimenting with their production process. “We were challenged by an inefficient supply chain, as a slow producer created lengthy delays,” says Pearson. “This year we are focused on creating an efficient and reliable production process and will be investing in our own custom design workshop.”

As high school students the team is limited in its ability to fund themselves. So pochepocket has taken the brand to kickstarter.com with the hope of raising $10,000 in 40 days. pochepocket will release two collections before the end of September, as well as a series of smaller releases. These collections will be available for purchase online on their e-commerce store set to be launched in the coming months.

pochepocket’s kickstarter campaign has just less than two weeks to go. To follow their project find them on Facebook and spread the word to your social media networks. Consider donating as little as $1 to help their project come to life and support these passionate entrepreneurs.
