BusinessNZ has announced the appointment of Katherine Rich as its new Chief Executive, effective September.

This decision marks a significant leadership shift for the organisation, following the departure of Kirk Hope, who is stepping into the role of CEO at the Financial Services Council after nine years of service.

Katherine Rich brings a wealth of experience to her new role at BusinessNZ, drawing from her extensive background in both the public and private sectors. A prominent figure in New Zealand’s business community, Rich has held various influential positions, including Board chair and member roles, as well as CEO roles with leading industry associations. Her experience extends to three terms as a Member of Parliament and significant roles in marketing and management.

BusinessNZ President Andrew Hunt praised Rich’s appointment, highlighting her impressive track record. “Katherine Rich’s extensive experience and strong leadership profile will undoubtedly add significant value to BusinessNZ. Her arrival continues our tradition of successful advocacy and strengthens our commitment to providing a robust voice for our members.”

Rich’s predecessor, Kirk Hope, is credited with guiding BusinessNZ through a period of substantial growth and transformation.

Katherine Rich’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment for BusinessNZ, an organisation that, along with its network – including EMA, Business Central, Business Canterbury, and Business South – represents and services thousands of businesses across New Zealand.

As she prepares to step into her new role, Rich’s leadership is expected to usher in a new chapter for BusinessNZ, reinforcing its role as a vital advocate for businesses across the nation.
