TM Quizzes (TMQ) has been named as a finalist in the Wellington Region Business Excellence Awards 2018 – Best Emerging Business category.

Owner of the business and long-time NZBusiness magazine subscriber Hilary Combes (pictured) says she is very excited to have been named a finalist in these prestigious awards.

“At TMQ, I create, write and host bespoke quiz events, offering something very different to the normal for organisations and venues. My married surname is Taylor, so the quizzes are Taylor-Made,” says Hilary.

Corporate clients may choose questions on favourite subjects, or related to their office or company. Those subjects are compiled specifically for them and they get a quiz event that is special and unique.

“Writing the quizzes is a mixture of art and science, and they are really fun to host. There’s a real sense of community at our pub quizzes, and the winning team gets to choose a specialist round for next time, which encourages them to return and gives the other teams time to read up. We’ve had subjects as diverse as World War II Tanks, Russian Literature and the heavy metal band Black Sabbath. They took a bit of research!”

TMQ also supports the Duffy Books in Homes charity and donates to them relative to the number of quizzes hosted.

“I think literacy skills are really important and that by encouraging children to read books they will develop an eagerness for knowledge. After all, they will be the next generation of quizzers,” says Hilary.

The Wellington Region Business Excellence awards are hosted by the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The awards dinner and ceremony on 30th November will be held at the new Lower Hutt Events Centre and is expected to be attended by over 500 people.
