The search for the next cohort of New Zealandโ€™s most inspiring and impactful leaders starts today, with nominations now open for the 2025 New Zealand Leadership Awards.

Presented by global recruitment firm Robert Walters, the awards recognise leaders who are driving change, innovation, and growth across a diverse range of industries and community sectors.

Now in its second year, the New Zealand Leadership Awards aim to celebrate leadership in all its forms – from established executives to rising stars making a difference in their fields.

Shay Peters, CEO of Robert Walters Australia and New Zealand, highlights the significance of the awards: โ€œIn its second year, the New Zealand Leadership Awards will highlight the leaders who arenโ€™t just navigating change – they’re using it as fuel for progress. These awards are all about recognising those whose leadership elevates their industries, inspires others, and fosters tangible impact across business and communities.โ€

The awards span 13 categories, including SME Business Leadership, Innovation Leadership, Sustainability Leadership, and Emerging Leader of the Year. Notably, the Steinlager Entrepreneur/Start-Up Leadership Award, the Hnry Innovation Leadership Award, and the Fonterra Sustainability Leadership Award are set to recognise pioneers in key growth sectors.

Reflecting on last yearโ€™s awards, James Fuller, CEO and founder of Hnry, who served as a judge in 2024, emphasises the evolving nature of leadership: โ€œLast year, I was astounded by the calibre of leaders we saw. Leadership is no longer about fitting into a mould. Itโ€™s about challenging the status quo and embracing innovationโ€”whether thatโ€™s in tech, sustainability, or community-driven enterprises. These awards showcase leadership beyond the boardroom.โ€

Nicola Taylor, Co-founder of Tax Traders & Taxi and the 2024 SME Business Leadership Award winner, underscores the importance of the awards in recognising diverse leadership styles. โ€œWinning the SME Business Leadership Award was a moment Iโ€™ll never forget. It was a validation of a leadership style thatโ€™s empathetic, purpose-driven, and values-aligned. We need to shine a light on leaders who donโ€™t always fit the traditional mould, and this award celebrates that diversity in leadership. I encourage everyone to nominate someone whoโ€™s making a difference in their industry.โ€

With economic uncertainty and ongoing challenges in the business landscape, Peters believes the awards are more relevant than ever. โ€œIf we lose our collective ambition and drive to succeed, the ripple effects will be felt throughout the business landscape. Especially in the wake of the recent challenges weโ€™ve all faced, itโ€™s more vital than ever to celebrate and inspire each other. During a time filled with so much negativity, this is our chance to spread some much-needed positivity.โ€

Nominations for the 2025 awards are open from March 3 until May 2, with finalists set to be announced on 23rd July. The awards gala, where the winners will be revealed, will take place on 4th September.
