It’s not very often something radically new comes along in the printer space. Speed, functionality and print quality ceased grabbing the technology page headlines years ago.
But Toshiba’s unique new eco-MFP (multifunctional printer) – “the world’s first MFP with erasable toner” – comes pretty close to being radical. Certainly, firms that generate substantial amounts of paper documents they don’t want to retain will be impressed by the up to 80 percent savings in paper usage. There’s potential here to save many trees.
The system consists of the e-STUDIO 306LP MFP (print, copy, scan, fax) loaded with Toshiba’s special erasable T3030D blue toner cartridge (documents are printed in blue, identifying which documents can be erased); plus the e-STUDIO RD30 – the compact Paper Reusing Device that uses heat to de-colourise the text and images on documents and can be located anywhere on the office network. Watching printed documents being loaded into this device and the paper tray magically filling up with clean, white, reusable sheets is a joy to behold – particularly if you’re an environmentally-aware individual concerned about carbon emissions.
Officially Toshiba says the RD30 erases each page up to five times. That means the same amount of paper you’d normally use in one year, can now last five years. But Andrew Simpson, product manager Electronic Imaging Division for Toshiba, knows of one Australian client that re-uses each sheet of paper up to 15 times!
Toshiba’s eco-MFP is not just about erasing documents either – it fully integrates into your digital workflow and can electronically archive the document’s contents before erasing it.
Not quite the ‘paperless office’ predicted last century; but definitely a bold step towards it.
