Commercial Bay, Auckland’s new retail and hospitality precinct, opened its doors on Thursday 11th June.
Set to be one of the most transformational projects Auckland has ever seen, Commercial Bay offers more than 120 food, beverage and retail options from both local and international brands.
The precinct will also be home to an estimated 10,000 workers once the striking new PwC Tower is completed. The future redevelopment of One Queen Street will make Commercial Bay the largest office and retail precinct in the city centre.
Precinct Properties Chief Executive, Scott Pritchard, says “Commercial Bay is an ambitious urban transformation on the shores of the Waitematā that represents a range of firsts for New Zealand.
“It is unlike any development seen before in this part of the world, with an international quality retail and dining offer that is comparable with any gateway city. With vibrant laneways and large open-air spaces, shoppers will be able to discover all the precinct has to offer in a safe but lively environment.
“It is a crucial time for Commercial Bay to be opening as New Zealand kickstarts its economy after lockdown.
“Commercial Bay is a symbol of New Zealand’s road to recovery in a post Covid-19 economy and the revitalisation of the city centre. We are incredibly proud to support local businesses as well as first-to-market retailers as they open and get back on their feet after a really tough few months,” Pritchard says.
Precinct Properties is committed to ensuring Commercial Bay provides a safe environment for all workers, diners and shoppers visiting the precinct.
“Of course, we never planned to be opening under these circumstances, however we are absolutely delighted to welcome Aucklanders to a new and exciting part of their city where they can shop, eat, drink and experience all Commercial Bay has to offer,” says Pritchard.
Since the 1800s the southern shore of the Waitematā Harbour has been an important place of transport, trade and commerce, an area once called Commercial Bay.
“It has been important for us to understand and honour the past, working with iwi and our designers, Warren and Mahoney, to reinstate Commercial Bay as the centre of activity, trade and commerce in the city,” says Pritchard.
