With the Retail sector forecast to provide some of the highest numbers of job and career opportunities across all Service sectors in New Zealand, positioning Retail as a career of choice and highlighting strong Employment Branding is key for the industry to stand out and be recognised.

The importance of Employment Branding is paramount to success for Retailers, enabling the Retail sector to attract and retain the best people in the market.

This year the Award Program voteretail.com was refreshed and enhanced to showcase an increased number of Retail brands doing great things in the employment market. The result has been positive with the achievement of year-on-year growth, reflected by the increased volume of brands participating in the accolade, proving that the Retail sector is a career of choice.

ASB’s Cube Bar at Auckland’s North Wharf hosted the Retail Employer of the Year event last night where finalists were announced and celebrated amongst other Retail Industry Professionals and Guest Speakers.

Large category finalists consisting of over 1000 full time equivalent employees included; Farmers, Kmart, Noel Leeming, and The Warehouse with The Warehouse taking the Winning Title.
Voter’s comments included: “Amazingly caring employer, great career opportunities”. “They look after staff and their families. Always given opportunities to upskill myself. I love going to work!”

Jeanswest, Repco, and Warehouse Stationery were clear finalists for their category (101 – 1000 employees), won by Warehouse Stationery.
Voter’s comments included; “a company that really cares for its employees and seeks to develop them to be the best they can be”, “I love it here!”

This year the small category (less than 100 employees) proved to attract some new comers, finalists included; Glengarry, Lovisa, and Seed Heritage.  Glengarry took the winners title, praised by staff as “a great family business with friendly colleagues, it’s a fun place to work!” and, “we have the best culture”.

Retailworld congratulates all finalists and winners of 2017 Retail Employer of the Year, the exceptional practices and value of a strong employment branding enable the industry to stand out and be recognised as a career of choice.
