NZBusiness SEPTEMBER Issue – OUT NOW

What’s with the cover?

It’s true this magazine has always been a source of inspirational, positive business stories. There is a natural tendency in all of us to accentuate the positive, and we all know that businesses thrive on positive attitude.

So this month’s cover story around business failure might at first appear a little negative – however, I can assure you that the main purpose of the story is to help people recognise the early warning signs that a business is struggling; to pass on experienced advice that can help business owners, at the very least, deal with the prospect of business failure, and, as a best outcome, turn the ship around and avoid that iceberg altogether.

As someone who has personally experienced business failure, I know how desperate things can get when you really can’t see your way clear. To step away from the day-to-day tasks and address the fundamental flaws.

Our cover story might be just what an underperforming business needs to turn things around. And it goes without saying that if you think your business is underperforming, don’t hesitate, get some expert advice and start making changes.

Of course, it’s not all about the downside of business in this issue. We’ve more than balanced the ledger with some great inspirational stories, and words of wisdom from some of this country’s leading consultants and business specialists.

My favourite inspiration pieces include husband and wife team Joe and Lisa Byrne, who are determined to set a high benchmark in Auckland’s crazy home building sector, and Nadine and Karl ToeToe of Kohutapu Lodge and Tribal Tours, Murupara – the couple out to change a town for the better through tourism.

As Cathy Parker, the publisher of NZBusiness, has just celebrated 25 years in the magazine publishing industry, it’s also timely this month to thank everybody who contributes to this publication – past, present and future. Every contribution, either for the print edition or for our online platform, is highly valued and very much appreciated.

And, as always, we value reader feedback too – positive or negative, it all helps.

Enjoy the read.
