The accidental entrepreneurs

For Northland couple Trevor and Danielle Beatson, a personal weight-loss journey led to an idea for a coaching app, which led to a mid-life crash course in entrepreneurship. In terms of career changes – this one is about as scary as it gets. It involves Northland-based couple Trevor and Danielle Beatson – both in their mid-to-late 40s and with four kids.  Trevor has a 21-year police career behind him, while Danielle has been a schoolteacher for many years. APP PROFILE: NOWSNAPP

Launched officially in 2018, Nowsnapp (www.nowsnapp.com/nz/) is an instant services app now available across New Zealand, Hong Kong and France. The app has a strong French connection. It was the brain-child of French entrepreneur, Laurent Guillon, who teamed up with partners and shareholders Emmanuel Gimeno (chief brand officer), JΓ©rΓ΄me Daste (CTO), Jimmy Alanoix (business intelligence director) and Brian Isaacs (GM business intelligence) and based them out of the KaΒ―piti Collective, a co-working space an hour’s drive north of Wellington. Nowsnapp allows for the uploading and acceptance of small jobs such as car washing, gardening, carpooling, all the way through to professional services such as photographers, hairdressers and professional trade services.  The app also encourages and supports independent earners to make

The way this game works is that teams of attackers scour the Internet looking for

Let’s focus on franchising

Are you as amazed as I am about the number of franchised businesses that keep popping up all over New Zealand?  Did you know that New Zealand is the most franchised country in the world – with one franchised unit for every 124 people?  That’s just one of many surprising statistics from the 2017 Franchising New Zealand Survey – and two years on, those stats are still impressive. Given the high level of interest in franchised businesses, we thought it timely to dedicate this month’s cover story to the subject. Our story is more of a guide really, and we sought input from some of the best franchise brains in the country, including our own franchise columnist of many years
