Thryv launches AI growth platform for local service businesses

Many tradies and salon owners already spend money on marketing. The harder question is which of that spend actually brings in paying customers, and Thryv says its new platform can answer it.

Small service businesses in New Zealand and Australia have a new AI-powered tool for three familiar problems: Getting found online, working out which leads are worth chasing, and seeing which marketing spend turns into revenue.

Nasdaq-listed Thryv has launched the Thryv Growth Platform, a redesigned system built for local service businesses such as plumbers, contractors, salons, lawyers and accountants.

The company calls the launch the biggest step yet in its move from a directory and marketing services company to an AI-powered software business. Its software is used by about 100,000 small businesses worldwide.

The platform is built around three functions:

  • Getting found. It aims to make businesses visible wherever customers search, including Google, AI search engines, maps, directories and social media. A Digital Marketing Score works alongside AI-generated websites and social posts.
  • Reaching the right customers. Paid “boost” campaigns are managed by Thryv staff and use AI to focus on the leads most likely to buy. The company says the campaigns are designed to improve return on investment over time.
  • Tracking what works. A tool called Thryv AI Lead Insights scores each lead’s intent, summarises conversations and suggests next steps for high-intent leads. Owners can also see which campaigns are driving revenue.

Thryv now also connects with field service management platforms such as Jobber, so leads flow straight into software many service businesses already use.

Elise Balsillie, Head of Thryv Australia and New Zealand, said business owners are under pressure to get more from their marketing budgets.

“They want to be found by the right customers, understand which leads deserve their attention and see a clear connection between their investment and revenue,” she says.

“By combining AI-powered insights, expert marketing support and CRM integrations, it gives business owners a clearer view of where opportunity is coming from and the confidence to act on it.”

As AI changes how consumers find businesses online, Thryv says it wants to give small operators the kind of marketing tools and expertise that used to be available only to big brands.
