Top hospitality talent celebrated in finalists announcement for 2025 Awards
New Zealand’s top hospitality businesses and professionals have been named finalists in the 2025 Lion Hospitality New Zealand Awards for Excellence.
The announcement comes as the industry looks ahead to the HNZ25 conference, which takes place at the Tākina Wellington Convention & Exhibition Centre on June 10 and 11. Hosted by Hospitality New Zealand, this year’s theme, Thriving Together, highlights the industry’s ongoing commitment to collaboration and growth in the face of ongoing challenges.
“The calibre of this year’s finalists speaks volumes about the talent and tenacity driving our industry,” says Steve Armitage, Chief Executive of Hospitality New Zealand.
“Each one reflects the energy, care, and creativity that hospitality in Aotearoa is known for. The Awards for Excellence are our opportunity to acknowledge those individuals and businesses who are raising the bar through their commitment to excellence, and we’re proud to recognise their impact and celebrate their success.”

Among the finalists are respected names such as Craggy Range and Hotel Britomart, as well as standout newcomers like TALA, The Church Pub and Peekaboo Backyard Eatery. The diversity of nominees, Ermitage says, highlights the depth of talent in the sector and the entrepreneurial spirit driving ongoing innovation, customer experience and sustainability.
The awards will be presented across two evenings at the HNZ25 conference. On Tuesday 10 June, the People’s Awards for Excellence, supported by DB Breweries, will honour individual contributions, from emerging talent to inspirational leaders.
Matt Wilson, Managing Director at DB Breweries, acknowledges the personal contributions of those in the industry: “We’re incredibly proud to back the People’s Awards for Excellence this year. These finalists represent the heart of hospitality – the people – and it’s a privilege to celebrate those who go above and beyond every day to create unforgettable experiences for their customers and communities.”
The following night will see the Lion Hospitality Business Awards take centre stage, with broadcaster Jesse Mulligan as MC. These awards will spotlight businesses setting new benchmarks in sustainability, innovation, and overall operational excellence.
Craig Baldie, Managing Director of Lion New Zealand, commends the achievements of the finalists: “These finalists represent the very best of our industry. Their passion, innovation and commitment to excellence continue to set the standard and lead our sector into a thriving future. It’s a privilege to support and recognise those who are making such a positive impact in their communities and in hospitality as a whole.”
