Connecting people has taken on a new meaning for leading internet provider Orcon with the company announcing it has chosen CanTeen as its charity of choice.
CanTeen is the New Zealand organisation that supports young people living with cancer. Orcon CEO Scott Bartlett says he sees great synergy between the brand philosophies of the two organisations.
“We have a fresh approach to life and business and we recognise this same approach in the work CanTeen does to help young New Zealanders living with cancer.
“CanTeen is all about connecting with each other, working together, celebrating results and sharing experiences. Orcon’s philosophy emulates these values and we believe making a difference is what truly counts at the end of the day.”
Bartlett says his company has been providing phone and internet services to CanTeen’s head office in Auckland for some time and the decision to partner with the organisation was a simple one.
“Our people have been very impressed by CanTeen’s work and the difference they make to youngsters living with cancer. We decided that we wanted to build on our relationship and extend it to sponsorship and I am delighted that we have been able to sign on as an official sponsor.”
Bartlett says many Orcon staff members are keen to engage with the charity and his team is already looking at ways to connect staff and customers with CanTeen’s fundraising efforts.
“Just as I do, our team members feel corporate social responsibility must be embraced at all levels not just through a donation of services or funds. We have told CanTeen our involvement will be wide and will be comprehensive – the team’s already limbering up for The Crank cycle challenge next month!”
David Pearce, CE of CanTeen says, “Having this new partnership with Orcon is going to be wonderful. As an organisation CanTeen is all about being connected. We promise our members they are not alone. That’s really important when you face the battles they do. The same commitment goes for our staff. With their help Orcon will make it that much easier to maintain contact, and to do even better what we already do well”.
“Orcon is a kindred spirit too, a young at heart organisation aimed at pushing boundaries to make lives better. So is CanTeen. Nice!”
Orcon will be providing broadband and phone services to all of CanTeen’s 13 offices nationwide. In addition to its ongoing sponsorship, Orcon also plans to encourage its customers to donate to the cause by adding links to CanTeen’s online ‘make a donation’ site on the Orcon homepage.
Upcoming events that Orcon will be supporting include The Crank, a spin bike endurance event, on June 29 and CanTeen’s major annual appeal event – Bandanna Challenge (14 to 30 of September).
