Civil engineering firm named Kapiti’s Business of the Year

A successful Waikanae civil engineering company has been selected as the 2014 Kapiti Horowhenua Electra Business of the Year.

A successful Waikanae civil engineering company has been selected as the 2014 Kapiti Horowhenua Electra Business of the Year.
Goodman Contractors Limited (Goodmans), a family operated civil engineering contracting company started by Rick Goodman and his brother in 1963, was awarded the supreme Business of the Year Award at the Electra Business Awards gala dinner in Levin on Friday, 10 October.
It was a big night for the company which also claimed the Large Business Excellence Award and the Health and Safety Achievement Award.
In announcing the supreme award, the judges said Goodmans impressed them as being a quality business, saying: “Following some tough times, the business has made a remarkable comeback and is returning excellent revenues through focusing on strong commercial opportunities while caring for its people. Taking a number of measurements into account, including winning a significant number of awards, Goodman Contractors has scored very high in several areas of their business and the judges are proud to make them Business of the Year.”
Kapiti Pak’n Save received the Highly Commended Award with the judges noting the company’s particular strengths in their operational focus and financial control that delivers healthy bottom line results, a general ability to manage all aspects of their business, and their constant drive to improve their business.
 
The other Excellence Award winners were:
Owner-operator: Craig Pope Mortgages & Insurance
Small Business: Jomp Hair Design
Medium Business: Longbeach
 
The Achievement Award winners on the night were:
Health and Safety: Goodman Contractors Ltd
Sustainability: Kapiti Pak’n Save
New Thinking: Woodhaven Gardens Ltd
Emerging Business: Tall Poppy
Employer of Choice: Jomp Hall Design
 
The winners of the popular Customer Choice Awards are judged solely based on the voting of their customers. These awards were hotly contested once again.
The Customer Choice winners were:
Retail: Swazi Apparel
Service: Book Island
